The 10/10 Project Vision

Our Vision
The cycle of poverty broken for every family in every impoverished community around the world.

The 10/10 Project Mission

The 10/10 Project builds relationships and partnerships with creative and innovative people throughout the world, learning and working together to break the cycle of poverty for life.

Our Mission

The 10/10 Project Values

  • Poverty Matters
    • As an organization, we believe that the poverty of our global neighbors should be on our hearts and minds as we go about daily life. Because our actions and choices have the power to impact others both negatively and positively on the other side of the planet, we must be proactive in dealing with the fact that 2 out 3 people on this planet live in poverty.
  • Relationship Matters
    • It is neither adequate nor effective enough to simply deliver aid; entering into a relationship with those we are serving and those who serve us is imperative. These relationships allow us to see that the delivery of aid and assistance is a reciprocal act. There is much we have to learn and understand from our global neighbors. In as such, we strive and are intentional about investing the time, energy and overall effort in building friendships across borders and cultures.
  • Justice Matters
    • The very existence of poverty on a globe of plenty is wrong. It is an antithesis to what we know to be right and just. The fact that much of the world’s resources are consumed by a few while the rest of the world struggles for daily survival is an injustice that can and must be corrected. Poverty is a human rights issue because adequate food, clean water, shelter, healthcare, education and employment are all attainable for every member of humanity.
  • Community Matters
    • Never before in the history of the world have communities domestically been able to connect with communities abroad with such ease and efficiency. Globalization and communication technologies have created a world of unprecedented interconnectedness and interdependence. However, the global poor remain marginalized and are not recipients of the benefits that globalization and global economic growth afford.

The 10/10 Project History

Our History
The 10/10 Project was founded with the following ideals: serving and giving. Upon reading a report that less than 3% of Christians cared or would do anything to address the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa, Andrew, the founder and Vice-Chairman of the Board of The 10/10 Project and his family, raised some money.  They then headed to Kenya to find a way to serve. During the summer of 2003, Andrew’s family found great problems, great people and an avenue of service.  The poverty and disease that has crippled this region of the world became acute to Andrew and he decided to form an organization that would bring that acuteness to the minds and hearts of not only Christians in America, but also each and every American who has the capacity to help.  Officially incorporated in May of 2003, The 10/10 Project is an international development and advocacy organization currently partnering with indigenous projects in Kenya and raising awareness for the global poor here in the United States.

The 10/10 Project Name

The 10/10 Project derives its name from John 10:10, where Jesus states, "the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy, but I have come so that you might have life, life to the full."  10/10 believes that this promise of God does not only apply to the eternal life found by knowing Jesus, but also that life here on earth is from God and is meant to be good and full. Poverty steals and kills and destroys life all over the world, and it should be the work of the church to fight poverty and bring God’s kingdom here "on earth as in heaven."  Some people have asked if 10/10 is a religious organization. Our response is no, well yes, actually no. 10/10 is not registered as a religious organization, nor does it restrict its aid and who works for it to those of a specific creed. That being said, it is a faith-motivated organization, made up of some people who are putting their faith into action by serving the poor. 10/10 is a humanitarian and advocacy organization, period.

Why is there a need for the 10/10 Project?

Many have asked the valid question of the need for a new organization on the field of development. Much research has gone into answering this question as 10/10 seeks to find its place as it serves the poor.  In its work, "Voices of the Poor," the World Bank had this to say regarding the scale of poverty and current NGO sector work. "Given the scale of poverty in the world, a majority of the world's families are not reached by even the most successful NGO's." With this in mind, the need for additional organizations to engage in effective and relevant work aiding those who are poor is acute. Some of the statistics read as follows:

* 1.2 billion people live at less than $1 per day.
* 2.8 billion people live at less than $2 per day.
* 30,000 children die every day from hunger-related diseases
* 1 billion people world-wide live in slums.
* Life expectancy in Kenya is currently at 46 years of age.
* There are currently 15 million HIV/AIDS orphans in sub-Saharan Africa.
* In Western Kenya, 1 of 4 adults is HIV positive.

10/10 is working hard to identify areas where no work is being done. Specifically, 10/10 has partnered with indigenous groups who are working diligently to meet the needs of their own communities. These groups have little or no contact to outside funding sources or partnerships. By establishing partnerships and relationship with these groups, 10/10 is providing a connection to greater resources for those who are trying to transform their own communities.
