Shane Schaap
Position: Trustee
Member since: Spring 2006
Bio Information: Shane has been a part of The 1010 Project since 2006, a few years after he and Melissa experienced an inspiring journey in Tanzania with Shane’s family on a micro-business development project. Joining the board of The 1010 Project has allowed Shane and Melissa the chance to continue to serve, contribute, and learn through a young, dynamic, grassroots organization.
For Shane and Melissa, The 1010 Project provides an opportunity to share Christ’s love through building relationships with like-minded people both locally and in East Africa in an effort to creatively and proactively break the cycle of poverty. They feel extremely fortunate to be able to learn from and with The 1010 Project staff, partners, and volunteers about global inequity issues and solutions.
Shane is pursuing a career as a commercial freight pilot. When he’s not in the air, you’ll likely find him on anything that goes fast (snowmobiles, motorcycles, etc.), restoring a vintage motorcycle, reading, or wrestling with his daughters. They are encouraged to grow in their walks with Christ by their spiritual family at Highline Community Church.
Shane and Melissa feel blessed to have lived in Japan and backpacked throughout Southeast Asia, Africa, and Europe. They are even more blessed by their two energetic daughters, Kaya and Analeyna, and want them and others to be aware of and active in reducing global inequity. |
