Bio Information: Melia is an educator. She finished her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education at Regis University in Denver. She received her graduate degree in Education, Equity, and Cultural Diversity at The University of Colorado. She has an endorsement in teaching English to Second Language Learners. Since 2003, Melia has taught in a private school in the Boulder Valley School District, with one year teaching in a British public school called Chafford Hundred Primary while living outside of London, England. She completed an internship over two consecutive summers in Puebla, Mexico.

Melia is married to Andrew Syed, the founder of The 1010 Project. They have two amazing children, Tanner and Konner. As a family, they love to be outdoors – especially in the winter on the ski slopes. In the fall and spring, they live and breathe soccer. When not working as an educator or running children to various activities, she loves to read, run, workout or enjoy a conversation over chai with a friend.

Melia has a heart for people around the world. She loves learning from others with different cultures and perspectives. Her family is committed to helping, loving and partnering with friends from different cultures. Her knowledge in education, experience in teaching both in Mexico and England as well as working with students from various countries gives her insight and expertise to furthering the development of The 1010 Project.
