John KezerPosition: Trustee Member since: 2003 Bio Information: John and his wife, Patrice, are Colorado natives with deep family roots in the State. John developed an interest in other countries and international issues as a result of his spending his junior year abroad in Germany and, after graduation from CU, some independent study in France. After completing law school at CU he became heavily involved in labor law which then led him to positions as an Assistant Attorney General in the Colorado Attorney General’s office where he headed the Labor and Civil Rights Unit. John then served as Director of the Division of Labor and as the Director of the Division of Employment and Training for the State. He was honored to be appointed and to have served as Colorado’s Insurance Commissioner (a position he held for five years before returning back in 1989 to private practice). John currently practices with the Denver law firm of Jones & Keller, P.C.. John’s legal background and background in public service set the stage for a strong interest in serving others. When he was approached by Andrew Syed, the founder of the 1010 Project, about helping with its formation he was motivated and challenged by Andrew’s spirit and the vision and mission of the 1010 Project. John and Andrew traveled to Kenya five years ago and they met some of the 1010 Project’s first partners and witnessed their faith and commitment to help themselves and the affects of the 1010 partnerships with them. John hopes he can live up to the expectations of serving on the Board and is able to help motivate and challenge others to join in the efforts to break the cycle of poverty. |
