Letter From the Director

April Greetings Supporters of 1010,

I would like to take this opportunity to highlight 1010's agenda for the next month.

April ushers in a new advocacy event for 1010, the “Monthly Community Dinner”.  The purpose is pretty simple:  Eat. Learn. Act.  Come and share a FREE meal with neighbors in your community and learn about global neighbors that are daily dealing with the issue of poverty.  Also, we will have an expert from the field present their forte with regards to the issue at hand.  More details about this exciting event to follow, but please save the date for Thursday, April 24th.

Also new this month, 1010 designated April as our annual “Pledge Month”.  Sometime in the near future you will receive a friendly phone call from a staff member or volunteer with 1010.  Please make the most of this call by getting to know the stranger on the other end of the line because, like you, they care deeply about ending the cycle of poverty for billions of people on our planet.

And most importantly, I want to direct your attention towards Immaculate Mwangi and the powerful work of Mother's Concern.  Mother's Concern will be featured this month at our April Community Dinner, as well as the broader issue of "Gender Inequality in the Developing World"

When I first visited Immaculate and the girls at Mother's Concern in a small 10 ft. by 10 ft. sheet metal shack,  I was overwhelmed.  It's one thing to read about girls forced into prostitution because of poverty and disease, it is quite a different experience to shake their hand, look them in the eye, and listen first hand to their stories.  Some of these girls had never shaken the hand of a mzungu (white person).  I began to think what if this was my older sister or cousin or friend, what would I do to help...

Despite the tremendous obstacles, the girls persevere and 1010 is there to assist, thanks to supporters like you!

Please Watch this short Video.

Come to the April Community Dinner and learn more about Immaculate and the girls of Mother's Concern.

You will be challenged  and inspired to become part of a movement that is ending poverty!
